What’s Christmas without festive sugar cookies to bring to parties, give as gifts, and leave out for Santa?! This homemade recipe is beyond any gluten-free Christmas cookie you’d find at the store. And baking them just really gets me into the holiday spirit! Bake these with your kids, friends, or partner while listening to Christmas music – it’s truly so much fun

Why You’ll Love This Gluten-Free Christmas Cookie Recipe

  • Fun For The Family: This is a great way to kick of your holiday season! Whether you’re measuring the sugar or your little ones are helping with the sprinkles, there’s room for everyone!
  • Easy and Quick: With a simple batter these cookies are ready for the oven and baked within 12 minutes.
  • Versatile and Customizable: Feel free to add chocolate chips, nuts, or crushed peppermint to the top of your cookies for a fun twist!

What You’ll Need To Make Gluten-Free Christmas Sugar Cookies

  • Butter: I used non-dairy butter to make these cookies dairy-free. Though whatever butter you use, make sure to soften it ahead of time!
  • Sugar: granulated sugar will work great for this recipe!
  • Eggs: These help bind the batter together, creating a soft classic christmas sugar cookie texture that will leave you wanting more!
  • Gluten-Free All Purpose Baking Flour: I use and love Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Baking Flour for all my gluten-free baking recipes. Your gluten-free flour must contain xanthan gum. If it doesn’t, then add 1 teaspoon xanthan gum in with the dry ingredients.
  • Salt: This will help to bring the cookies together by providing a balance to the sweetness.
  • Christmas Sprinkles: If you don’t celebrate Christmas, feel free to use your favorite holiday sprinkles instead!

How To Make The Best Gluten-Free Christmas Sugar Cookies

  • 1. Prepare Your Cookie Batter: Beat together your butter and sugar until light and creamy. Add your egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • 2. Bake The Cookies: Scoop 2 tablespoons-sized balls of cookie dough and place them 2 inches apart on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • 3. Remove and Cool: Remove cookies from the oven and let them cool on a cookie sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips, Tricks, and Storage

  • Making the Dough: It’s easier if you use a stand mixer or handheld mixer. But, if you want, I think it’s fun to do it by hand, just might take some extra elbow grease!
  • Make it Vegan: Okay, so usually I would swap the egg with a flax egg (1 tablespoon of ground flax meal mixed with warm water), but Bob’s Red Mill’s Egg Replacer might be the better option here. I haven’t tried this yet, but if you do, let me know in the comments!
  • Storage: Store the gluten-free Christmas cookies in an air tight container at room temperature for up to 5 days!

Rich in flavor, yet delicate in texture, gingerbread cookies are a classic Christmas holiday hit! These gluten-free gingerbread cookies are soft, chewy and flavorful from the molasses and warm spices. Dairy-free option is also included, so everyone can enjoy!

Gluten-Free Gingerbread Cookies

I love the holiday season, especially for all the food and desserts that come with it. Gingerbread cookies are one of the Christmas cookies that I love to make this time of year. Since my gingerbread cookies recipe is both gluten-free and dairy-free, it’s super friendly to dietary restrictions and baked slightly crisp with a soft, chewy, and perfectly spiced middle!

Main Ingredients Needed To Make Gluten-Free Gingerbread Cookies

  • All Purpose Gluten-Free Baking Flour

  • Butter – Dairy or non-dairy is fine depending on your preference, but I used non-dairy.

  • Egg

  • Baking Soda

  • Brown Sugar

  • Molasses – if you don’t know what molasses is: a syrupy byproduct of sugars from sugarcane and sugar beets.

  • Spices – ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground allspice, salt

  • For the icing: powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract

Tips When Making Gingerbread Cookies

  • To make vegan, use 2 flax eggs! To make one flax egg you will simply mix 2.5 tablespoons water and 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal and allow to sit for 5 minutes. Once it’s thick, you’ll use the flax mixture just as you would a regular egg.

  • You could substitute the molasses with maple syrup if you need something more “on hand,” but I definitely prefer it with molasses!

  • Blackstrap molasses provides a richer flavor and deeper color. Regular unsulphured molasses can be substituted for a lighter color and flavor.

  • Get your friends and family involved with the gingerbread cookie decorations (while sipping on big mugs of vegan hot chocolate). There’s no better way to get in the Christmas spirit!

  • Be creative! Turn these gingerbread cookies into a snowman, yeti, teddy bear and more.

What to use on GINGERBREAD Cookies For Decorations?

  • Shredded coconut: This can help to mimic snow when decorating your cookies (especially great when making house-shaped cookies).
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Cream cheese frosting: Instead of the simple glaze, combine plain vegan cream cheese with powdered sugar.

Rich in flavor, yet delicate in texture, gingerbread cookies are a classic Christmas holiday hit! These gluten-free gingerbread cookies are soft, chewy and flavorful from the molasses and warm spices. Dairy-free option is also included, so everyone can enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons Butter (softened)

  • 1 Egg (at room temperature)

  • 2 1/2 Cups All Purpose Gluten-Free Baking Flour

  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt

  • 1 Tablespoon Ground Ginger

  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon

  • 1 Teaspoon Nutmeg

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Allspice

  • For the icing:
  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar

  • 2 Tablespoons Milk

  • 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Directions

  • Beat butter and brown sugar together in a large bowl with either a hand or stand mixer, until light and fluffy. Add in molasses and egg, beat until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together gluten-free flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  • Add flour mixture into butter mixture and beat until a dough forms. Cover dough and let chill in fridge for at least one hour.
  • Once ready to bake, preheat oven to 350° Fahrenheit and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Place dough on a floured surface and roll until ¼-inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes from dough and carefully transfer shapes to prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake cookies for about 7 minutes, then remove, and transfer to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
  • Make icing by whisking all ingredients together in a small bowl. Add food coloring if you’d like, then use to decorate cookies.

Notes

  • To Store: Once the glaze has dried, store the vegan cookies in a cookie tin for 2-3 weeks.
  • To Freeze: Once the cookies are cooled place the undecorated cookies in a plastic freezer bag and place them in the freezer.  The cookies can be frozen for up to six months.

Gluten-Free Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake

This gluten-free coffee cake recipe so easy to make and such a perfect breakfast or brunch recipe on the weekend. Serve a big slice with a hot cup of coffee for a breakfast treat!

While there are a few different parts to this recipe — the coffee cake, streusel, and filling — they are all very quick to make.

MAIN INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE Gluten-Free Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake

  • 1:1 Baking Flour – I used Bob’s Red Mill 1-to-1 Gluten Free Baking flour in this recipe.

  • Butter – I used non-dairy butter. Consider using unsalted butter to control the salt content in this recipe.

  • Eggs – A common pantry item, you only need 3 large eggs for this.

  • Milk – I used non-dairy, but any milk can work with this.

  • Vanilla Extract – I use this in almost all my baked goods recipes because it enhances all the other flavors in the recipe.

  • Cinnamon – This wouldn’t be a cinnamon streusel coffee cake without the cinnamon!

  • Brown Sugar – This will be used for the streusel topping.

ADJUST THIS RECIPE TO YOUR DIET

  • Add dairy: I used non-dairy butter and milk, but it’s totally fine to use regular dairy products too.

  • Add Gluten: You can try using all purpose flour instead of the gluten-free version. However, flours like almond flour or coconut flour have not been tested in this recipe.

TIPS FOR MAKING Gluten-Free Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake

  • I like to line my baking dish with parchment paper for easy removal of the coffee cake from the pan after baking.

  • You can make the filling and streusel ahead of time. Just store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
