Channel your inner beach vacation with this easy piña colada recipe – frosty, tropical, perfectly creamy, and made with just 3 ingredients! NO added sugar, no pineapple juice from concentrate, no complicated steps required. Just frozen pineapple, coconut milk, and rum blended together into the most refreshing frozen cocktail you’ll make all summer. It’s healthier than any other piña colada recipe out there, and somehow still tastes just as good (if not better) than the version you’d order on vacation!

If you love an easy frozen cocktail, this one belongs right alongside my Mango Margaritas and Watermelon Margaritas in your summer entertaining rotation. This recipe makes a whole pitcher, which means it’s perfect for backyard parties, pool days, or just a Friday night when you want to feel like you’re on a tropical vacation without leaving your kitchen. 🙂

Why You’ll Love This Easy Piña Colada Recipe

  • Just 3 ingredients. Frozen pineapple, coconut milk, and rum. That’s it – no cream of coconut, no pineapple juice, no extra steps. This is the simplest piña colada recipe you’ll find anywhere.
  • No added sugar. Most piña colada recipes rely on cream of coconut, which is loaded with added sugar. This version uses frozen pineapple and full-fat coconut milk instead, which means all the sweetness here is naturally occurring – no refined sugar needed.
  • Healthier than any other piña colada. Without the added sugar from cream of coconut, this version is significantly lighter while still delivering that classic rich, creamy, tropical flavor you’re craving.
  • Just as delicious. Don’t let the simplicity fool you – this tastes exactly like the piña colada you’d order on vacation. Sweet, creamy, tropical, and perfectly balanced.
  • Makes a whole batch. This recipe makes plenty to share, making it perfect for summer parties, barbecues, and pool days. It also scales up easily if you’re hosting a crowd!
  • Super refreshing. Cold, frosty, and packed with tropical pineapple-coconut flavor – there’s nothing better on a hot summer day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh pineapple?

You can, but I highly recommend sticking with frozen pineapple for this recipe. Frozen pineapple is what gives this piña colada its thick, frosty, slushy texture without needing any extra ice, which would water down the flavor. If you only have fresh pineapple, you can freeze your own: cut into 1-inch chunks and freeze in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet for at least 2 hours before blending. You could also use fresh pineapple plus a cup of ice, but the texture will be slightly different – less thick and creamy, more like a slushy.

What can I use instead of rum?

If you’d like to make this alcohol-free, simply leave the rum out entirely or replace it with an extra splash of coconut milk or pineapple juice to maintain the liquid ratio. For a different flavor profile, coconut rum is a fun swap that doubles down on the tropical coconut flavor. White rum is the traditional choice, but if you prefer a richer, more caramel-forward flavor, you can use a small amount of dark or spiced rum – just know it will change the classic piña colada taste.

How do I make this a non-alcoholic piña colada?

Simply omit the rum! Replace it with an additional ¼–½ cup of coconut milk or pineapple juice to keep the same creamy, blended consistency. The frozen pineapple and coconut milk alone create such a rich, satisfying drink that you genuinely won’t feel like you’re missing anything. This is a great option for kids, pregnant friends, or anyone who prefers to skip the alcohol – and it’s just as refreshing!

Equipment

  • 1 blender

Ingredients

  • 4 cups frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup coconut milk (from a can for the best flavor!)
  • 1/2 cup light rum

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until no chunks of pineapple remain.

Notes

  • Use canned, full-fat coconut milk for the richest, creamiest flavor — avoid the carton kind found in the dairy aisle.
  • Frozen pineapple gives the best thick, frosty texture without watering down the flavor.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and add an extra splash of coconut milk or pineapple juice.
  • Best enjoyed immediately — this drink will separate and thin out if left to sit too long.

Summer just called, and it wants you to make these mango margaritas… immediately! Sweet, frosty, tropical, and made with just 3 ingredients – frozen mango, fresh lime juice, and your favorite tequila – this is the easiest pitcher cocktail you’ll make all season. 👏🏼 No added sugar, no orange liqueur, no triple sec, no simple syrup. Frozen mango is naturally sweet enough to carry the whole drink, which means this recipe is as simple as it gets and still tastes absolutely incredible.

I’m a big margarita girl – if you’ve tried my 3-Ingredient Watermelon Margaritas or my Skinny Blackberry Margarita, you already know this about me. But these mango margaritas might just be my new favorite. They’re bright, refreshing, naturally sweet, and take about 2 minutes to make. Blend, pour, and enjoy – that’s it!

Why You’ll Love These Mango Margaritas 😍

  • Just 3 ingredients. Frozen mango, tequila, and lime juice. That’s it — no trip to the liquor store for triple sec, no simple syrup to make, no extra steps. This is the most streamlined mango margarita recipe on the internet, and it tastes better than any version with a longer ingredient list.
  • No added sugar. Frozen mango is naturally sweet enough to make this cocktail perfectly balanced without a single drop of added sweetener. Fewer ingredients, fewer calories, all the flavor.
  • Makes a whole pitcher. This recipe makes 4 generous servings — perfect for a backyard barbecue, a pool day, a girls’ night, or just a Tuesday when you deserve something fun. It also doubles and triples easily!
  • Super refreshing and fun. Cold, frosty, fruity, and tropical — these mango margaritas are the definition of a perfect summer drink. They taste like a vacation in a glass.
  • Ready in 2 minutes. Add everything to the blender and blend. That’s the whole process. You’ll spend more time salting your glass rim than actually making the drink.

Sam’s Recipe Tips 🥭

  • Use a good quality blanco tequila. The quality of your tequila is the single biggest factor in how much you enjoy this drink. A smooth blanco tequila makes all the difference — no harsh alcohol bite, just clean, agave-forward flavor that pairs beautifully with the sweet mango.
  • Don’t skip the frozen mango. Frozen mango (not fresh, not canned, not mango juice) is what gives this margarita its thick, slushy, perfectly frosty consistency. Fresh mango + ice will give you a more watery result. Frozen is the way to go every time.
  • Tajín rim > salt rim. If you’ve never tried a Tajín rim on a mango margarita, you are missing out. The chili-lime powder against the sweet tropical mango flavor is absolutely perfect. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip into a shallow plate of Tajín. Life-changing!!!
  • Make it a pitcher ahead of time. Blend the margarita mixture (without ice) and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours ahead of time. When ready to serve, blend with ice or pour over ice directly. Perfect for entertaining!
  • Make it a mocktail. Simply replace the tequila with ¼ cup of water or a splash of sparkling water for an alcohol-free mango margarita mocktail that everyone at the table can enjoy.

Other Flavor Variations

Love this recipe? Here are a few fun ways to mix it up!

🌶️ Spicy Mango Margarita Add ½–1 fresh jalapeño (seeds removed for mild heat, seeds included for serious heat) to the blender with the rest of the ingredients. The sweet mango and spicy jalapeño combination is absolutely incredible and completely addictive.

🍍 Mango Pineapple Margarita Replace 1 cup of the frozen mango with 1 cup of frozen pineapple chunks for an even more tropical twist. Sweet, tangy, and seriously refreshing.

🍓 Mango Strawberry Margarita Replace 1 cup of the frozen mango with 1 cup of frozen strawberries for a beautiful pink-orange frozen margarita with a bright, fruity flavor.

🍑 Mango Peach Margarita Replace 1 cup of frozen mango with 1 cup of frozen peaches. The peachy sweetness pairs beautifully with the tropical mango.

🥥 Mango Coconut Margarita Swap the plain ice for frozen coconut milk cubes (pour coconut milk into an ice cube tray and freeze!) for a creamy, tropical mango coconut margarita that tastes like paradise.

Cool and refreshing frozen daiquiri, with a secret ingredient! My Mom’s famous recipe for this best EVER frozen cocktail. Just four ingredients, perfectly sweet, and totally delicious.

two frozen daiquiris with fresh limes on the side

The Secret Ingredient: Coconut Rum

A few weeks ago, my Mom had the genius idea to swap out regular rum in her frozen daiquris for coconut rum. And boy, it made allllll the difference! A hint of coconut in this tropical cocktail left everyone asking “what is that?! that’s DELICIOUS!” It’s sort of like a cross between a classic daiquiri and a piña colada. The coconut is light, not at all overpowering, and simply perfect.

My Mom – a fan of the finer things in life – uses an exclusive small-batch brand of coconut rum. But let me tell you, I recreated her recipe with this Bacardi Coconut Rum (purchased for $15!) and my frozen daiquiris tasted just as good!

What Else You’ll Need to Make a Frozen Daiquiri

Lime Juice – Fresh squeezed is best! My Mom insists on using freshly-squeezed juice in all of her cocktails. And I must admit, fresh squeezed lime juice makes a world of a difference in these frozen daiquiris!

Simple Syrup or Agave – Feel free to use whichever you have on-hand! I used agave nectar because it’s what I had leftover from these Skinny Strawberry Margaritas.

Ice – This one seems pretty self-explanatory, ha! Though I will say, if you’d like a frozen strawberry daiquri instead, replace the ice with two cups of frozen strawberries.

Blender – I own and LOVE my Vitamix blender. It’s super powerful, and there truly isn’t anything it can’t blend. However, any blender will work to blend this frozen cocktail. You could even use a Nutribullet for easier cleanup!

Adjust This Recipe to Your Dietary Needs

Make it Sugar-Free: For a sugar-free option, replace the simple syrup with your favorite sugar-free liquid sweetener.

Make it a Mocktail: Turn this into a delicious non-alcoholic frozen beverage by using equal parts coconut water in place of the coconut rum!

These frozen margaritas are everything you’ve ever dreamed of, and MORE! They’re deliciously tart, slightly sweet, and oh-so refreshing. Ditch the unnecessary margarita mix and blend together a batch of these homemade frozen margaritas. All you’ll need is 5 ingredients and just a few minutes!

What You Need To Make Frozen Margaritas

Silver Tequila – I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – use good quality tequila! I’m sure we’ve all taken a sip of a margarita and thought, hmmmm that’s not a very good margarita. And I’m telling you, 9 times out of 10 it’s because that marg you’re sipping on was made using dirt-cheap tequila. Whenever I pick up tequila, I aim for not the most expensive, but also not the cheapest. Espolón, Patron, and Casamigos are all brands I’ve tried and would definitely recommend!

Triple Sec – For those of you that don’t know, triple sec is an orange-flavored liqueur. It adds just a touch of sweetness and some nice fresh flavor to these frozen margaritas. However, if you don’t have triple sec, you can easily use fresh squeezed orange juice instead. Fresh squeezed orange juice is lower-cal and a slightly healthier option. So use whichever you’d like in this recipe!

Agave – This natural sweetener is used in place of the simple syrup in this frozen margaritas recipe. Agave dissolves quickly and packs in quite a bit of sweetness. This sweet syrup is the perfect compliment to the otherwise tart flavors in this frozen cocktail. Just a little bit of agave is all you need to make these drinks perfectly sweet!

Make It A Mocktail

  • To make virgin frozen margaritas, substitute the tequila with grapefruit juice. Also, use fresh squeezed orange juice instead of triple sec. You’ll have a delicious and refreshing summertime mocktail!

Tips For Making Frozen Margaritas

  • Serve these margaritas immediately after making! Unfortunately, any frozen cocktail will begin to separate after blending. Especially in the warmer months! Therefore, I highly recommend preparing your ingredients and then blending everything up right before serving.
  • Feel free to add any frozen fruit you’d like! A handful of frozen strawberries would make a delicious addition to these cocktails.
  • Blend just enough, but not too much. Under-blending will result in large ice chunks throughout your drink. And let me tell you, nothing’s worse than not being able to slurp up your frozen margarita because a giant ice chunk has clogged your straw. However, if you blend them too much, they could start to melt and taste watered down.
